Where the planets are right now

Sidereal positions of the nine grahas, as of Friday 4 September 2026 at 03:45 IST. Transits are geocentric, so unlike the panchang these do not depend on your city.

GrahaRasiDegreeNakshatraPadaDignity
Sun Leo 18°20′ Purva Phalguni 2 own
Moon Taurus 13°04′ Rohini 1 exalted
Mars Gemini 22°09′ Punarvasu 1 neutral
Mercury Leo 25°03′ Purva Phalguni 4 neutral
Jupiter Cancer 21°13′ Ashlesha 2 exalted
Venus Libra 2°21′ Chitra 3 own
Saturn R Pisces 20°25′ Revati 2 neutral
Rahu R Aquarius 6°03′ Dhanishta 4 neutral
Ketu R Leo 6°03′ Magha 2 neutral

R marks a graha in apparent retrograde motion. Degrees are within the sign, in the sidereal zodiac using the Pushya-paksha ayanamsa (currently 23°05′) — a Western, tropical chart will place these roughly 24° further on, which is why a "sun sign" often differs between the two systems.

What gochara is

Gochara is the movement of the grahas through the signs as it happens now, read against the fixed positions of a birth chart. A transit means little on its own: Saturn entering a sign is one thing for someone with a Capricorn lagna and quite another for someone with a Cancer one. That comparison is what a reading does — this table is only the sky half of it.

The gochara chapter in the Gurukul works through how transits are judged, including sade sati.
