The first of the three phases — Saturn is in the sign before your Moon, and the pressure tends to show up as expense, disturbed sleep, and things quietly asking to be tidied up before they can be built on.

What Sade Sati actually is

Sade Sati means "the seven and a half" — the roughly seven-and-a-half-year stretch while Saturn transits the three signs around your natal Moon: the 12th (rising), the 1st (peak, Saturn directly over the Moon) and the 2nd (setting). Saturn spends about two and a half years in each sign, hence the name.

It is keyed to your Moon sign, not your Sun sign, and to the sidereal zodiac. That last point matters: the sidereal and tropical zodiacs differ by about 24°, so a Western Moon sign is frequently one sign further on than the Vedic one, and using it will give you the wrong answer here.

Sade Sati is not the same as dhaiya

Saturn in the 4th from the Moon (kantaka shani) or the 8th (ashtama shani) is a separate two-and-a-half-year transit, often called dhaiya. It gets conflated with Sade Sati constantly. It is not the same thing, it is shorter, and it is read differently.

What it does not tell you

Sade Sati is one transit, judged from one point in your chart. It says nothing about Saturn's dignity in your chart, which houses Saturn rules from your ascendant, or which dasha period you are actually running — and those routinely matter more. Two people in the same phase of Sade Sati can have completely different years. Treating it as a forecast of disaster is a modern habit, not what the classical texts say.
